In My Mailbox (33)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren, in which book bloggers post about the books they've bought, borrowed or received in the past week.

Happy Easter! This past Wednesday was my 22nd Birthday, so I got a few books! From my parents, I recieved Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick, author of The Invention of Hugo Cabret. I just finished this one, and it's told in a similar style as Hugo, except with two characters from different eras whose stories are intertwined. Ben is seeking the father he has never known, while a famous actress leads Rose to New York. Ben's story is set in 1977 and told in text, while Rose's story is set in 1927 and told through pictures. My friend gave me Brooklyn by Colm Toibin, which is about a girl growing  up in Post WWII Ireland who leaves home to work in a Brooklyn boarding house. I bought myself The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly, which I've already read. It's a fairy tale retelling, in which a boy leaves England during WWII and finds himself in a world he knows from his favourite story book. Obviously I loved it, since I bought a copy of my own.

From the library, I took out Sweethearts by Sara Zarr, author of How to Save a Life. When they were young, Jennifer and Cameron found themselves with only each other, unable to fit in. After Cameron disappears without warning, Jennifer transforms into Jenna, who is popular and the opposite of who she was when she was friends with Cam. When Cam suddenly returns, Jenna is reminded of the person she once was. I also took out some travel books for my brother, who's going to California next week.

I hope everyone is having a great Easter long weekend! What was in your mailbox this week?
